The bible teaches that Christians in the Church Age do not need to work for their salvation.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
The above verse clearly debunks the very thought that you must work your way to heaven. Which is unfortunately widely taught throughout many christian denominations.
Jesus himself will condemn works salvationists.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
As we can see in the above verses Jesus condemns these people for trusting in their "wonderful works". Their self righteous pride had brought them to believe they were saved by the things that they have done. But Jesus plainly said unto them "I never knew you" which shows they were never saved. And now I'm sure you must be wondering "what then is doing the will of my father?". The will of the father is found in
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The bible says works salvationists are actually under a curse
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it isevident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
The Bible also says that we can rest assured of our salvation
1 John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Salvation by faith alone brings all the glory to God and not to mankind. As the Apostle Paul said in
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
What is the biblical conclusion we must ask?
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Here is an inexhaustive list of bible verses that teach salvation by faith alone.
