No man is truly wise unless he is a soul winner
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Don't you want to be counted as a wise person in God's eyes? I think this verse alone should be pretty compelling enough to tell you that you should preach the gospel to others.
And in this next verse Jesus says that his followers WILL be soul winners.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
He never said you might become fishers of men, Jesus said you WILL!
In the context of the resurrection at the end of the tribulation the bible says
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Don't you want to shine as the stars for ever and ever?
Why do I stress the importance of Soul Winning? Maybe because I was an unsaved Atheist for 20 years and nobody ever preached the gospel to me! I didn't know anything about Jesus or what he did for me. I was completely blind to the fact that my saviour died on the cross 2,000 years ago. Would if there's someone else in my situation and they died tomorrow without hearing the gospel? You know where they would be? I would not even want to think about it...
In John 21:15-17 Jesus asks Peter 3 times if he loves him.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
There's a reason Jesus had to stress this issue to Peter 3 times. "Feed my sheep" basically means he's asking Peter to guide the Church and instruct them on God's word. In John 21 Jesus basically said "if you love me, preach the gospel".
Now this becomes serious. The question we have now is
- Do you love God?
- Do you want to be counted as wise in God's eyes?
If so then PREACH THE GOSPEL
Even if people don't accept the gospel you give them. At least you know that you gave them the chance to be saved. This next passage is probably one of the most horrifying passages in the bible and if you are a saved christian but you don't preach the gospel to people then this passage should horrify you more than any horror movie
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THINE HAND.
This verse basically says God is gonna hold you accountable for every single unsaved person you failed to give the gospel to! If you don't preach the gospel this verse should completely horrify you.
Imagine getting to the judgement seat of Christ and you see the lives of all the atheists and non believers and God blames you for not getting them saved. Who knows... perhaps you will only save 1 person in your life...is that not worth it? God is using you to completely change someone's destiny from hell to heaven. This 1 person has been given eternal life and it's all because you chose to get up off your butt and preach the gospel. Was that not worth it?
Now imagine this, imagine every single christian were to get just 5 people saved in their lifetime. You realize how much of a difference that would make in heaven? The bible says the angels rejoice in heaven when people are saved.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Down here on earth the only thing people mention in the news are wars and sinful topics. But if you get people saved it will be the talk of the town in heaven. I don't know about you but screw the newspapers, I'd rather have the angels in heaven rejoicing. I'll share with you a story from a book titled "The Judgement Seat of Christ by Peter S. Ruckman" on Page 27. it says
Years ago, a liberal, modernistic preacher came down from a very restless night and sat down in the breakfast nook at the table. His wife fixed him a cup of coffee as he sat there pale and shaken. She asked, "What's wrong?" He said, "I had a terrible dream last night. I dreamed I died and came up to a cloud. There was someone on that cloud who pointed his finger at me, and it looked like he had a hole in his hand. This one who was standing on the cloud pointed his finger at me and said, "Preacher, where are the souls of your mailman and your TV repairman and your newspaper boy?" I said, "I don't understand what you mean by souls. I don't know where they are." Then I dreamed that the bottom dropped out of the cloud, and it felt like I fell a million miles down into a lake of fire. In that fire were you, the children, the TV repairman, the grocer, the mailman, and the newspaper boy; and all of you were pointing your fingers at me and cursing me." His wife said, "Well, honey, you probably just had something bad to eat last night."
He stirred his coffee, picked up the cup, and dropped dead of a heart attack.
Do you want to end up with all that guilt on your hands like that preacher did?
And if that doesn't compel you to preach the gospel maybe this will. There is a crown Jesus gives to soul winners in heaven called "crown of rejoicing". Only soul winners will receive this crown!
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.
May the Love of God abide in your heart forever. Amen.
