The bible teaches that saved Christians will be rewarded for their good works in heaven. Good and bad works play no part in salvation. However, they do decide our rewards in heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
You can see the above verse makes it clear all Christians will be judged according to their works. The Judgement seat of Christ is for saved Christians.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
In verse 11 we see that Jesus Christ is the foundation of our salvation. But, we can build upon this foundation in order to receive rewards in heaven when we die (verse 12). Our works will be made manifest means what it says. Other Christians will be watching us judged and will see our works. So, try to live a godly life, unless you want your fellow Christians to see all the filth in your life?
Verse 14 makes it clear that we will receive a reward which could be one of the things listed in verse 12.
And verse 15 is a great verse for eternal security as it states quite clearly that even if he has bad works they will just be burned up and "he himself shall be saved". So, don't let anyone tell you that you can lose your salvation. That is blasphemy to Christ's death on the cross!
"I have known of Christians who were guilty of everything that I ever heard of unsaved people commiting. Incest? Drugs? Adultery? Fornication? You say, "They weren't saved!" Yes, they were. I examined them real close. They were just as saved as any of you. Anything can happen to a child of God if he doesn't watch his step, but there is one thing he doesn't have to worry about. He never has to worry about going to hell. Once you trust Jesus Christ, you are safe and secure, and God is going to get you home, if He has to boot you all of the way. That is called the eternal security of the believer. It simply means that although God may burn your works, you are never going to burn." - Peter Ruckman from page 4 of Judgement Seat of Christ
In Matthew 25:21 Jesus says
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Wouldn't you love for a perfect sinless creator to say that to you on the judgement day? If you wouldn't love that, then you are a lukewarm Christian.
"If Jesus Christ ever plants a crown on your head and says, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy lord," all heaven from the capstone to the foundation will have to say, "Amen!" If you can think of an honor higher than that, tell me about it. Tell me about some honor higher than having your sinless Saviour publicly compliment you before the cherubim and seraphim and the saints and Trinity. I've seen plenty in my day, and I've never seen anything like that." - Peter Ruckman from page 13 of Judgement Seat of Christ
The 5 Crowns
Below is a list of Crowns you can receive at the Judgement Seat of Christ along with the conditions needed to receive them.
1. Crown of Righteousness
2 Timothy 4:8
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Condition: To receive this crown you must want the Lord Jesus Christ to come back.
If you truly do want to get out of this world then you have a crown laid up for you in heaven. This is unfortunate for post tribbers as they will not receive this crown.
2. The Crown of Life
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Condition: To receive this crown you must resist temptation or become a Martyr.
Notice how resisting temptation is equated with loving God. Because, if you truly love God you will do your best to obey his commandments.
3: Incorruptible Crown
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Condition: Remain in the faith + Self discipline
To receive this Crown you must be strong in faith and practice self discipline
Catholics often use "I myself should be a castaway" as a justification to the idea that a man could lose their salvation. But, anybody with any spiritual and common sense can read from the context Paul is basically saying "lest, God should toss me aside as worthless"
4. The Crown of Glory
1 Peter 5:1-4
1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Condition: Feed the flock of God (Preach biblical doctrine to fellow Christians)
To receive this Crown you must teach other Christians about God's word and help them to grow a stronger relationship with God .
5. Crown of Rejoicing
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
20 For ye are our glory and joy.
Condition: To receive this crown you must win souls to Christ.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
This about sums up the basics of rewards in heaven and the Judgement Seat of Christ.
May God's mercy rest upon your soul, Amen.
