What I am about to teach you is something that over 90% of churches today will not even tell you about. They want to keep you in the dark so that you lack any sort of biblical knowledge whatsoever. To sum up,
Dispensationalism in a sentence is basically "different messages are given to different groups of people in different time periods". If we want to know if dispensationalism is the truth, then we must look to scripture.
The bible proves Dispensationalism is the truth
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
The above verse shows that any true prophet would acknowledge that dispensationalism is the truth "rightly dividing the word of truth". Dispensationalism is the most important area of theology to study. If you do not study dispensationalism you will conglomerate all the bible verses together, apply them to all yourself and come up with a bunch of heresy.
The bible itself teaches dispensationalism
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
The above verses from Eph. 3 shows that Jesus Christ was a mystery and not made known to old testament saints, but you can clearly see that the doctrine of Christ is now known to the Church. There are false prophets which teach that Old Testament saints were justified through believing that Christ would die on the cross for them. But this is false, as the above verses make it clear the doctrine of Christ was a mystery unto them.
In this next example you will see how Jesus' disciples which were taught under Jewish theology did not know or comprehend what would happen to Jesus.
Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
As you can see this passage is in perfect harmony with Ephesians Chapter 3 as it clearly shows that Jews had no understanding of the crucifixion.
Things to ask yourself when reading the bible
- What time period is this?
-What group of people is this message delivered to?
-Does this doctrine contradict Church Age doctrine?
For example, a doctrine pertaining to an Old Testament saint will not necessarily pertain to a Church Age Saint.
Church Age doctrine teaches that you cannot lose your salvation Eph. 1:13, Col 2:11 etc.
Whereas Jewish doctrine teaches that you can lose your salvation Ezekiel Chapter 18 etc.
the reason for this is quite clear, Jesus had not yet died on the cross for Old Testaments saints and the holy spirit was not yet given, which is what seals us until the day of redemption. The vast majority of Pastors get confused with contradicting verses like these and they end up creating a bunch or heresy. The truth is simple, read the verse as it says and apply it to the proper group of people. No need to reinterpret the verse to suit your own evil needs!
So, when reading the bible always ask yourself the above questions in order to know whether the message is directed towards you or not.
This sums up the basics of Dispensationalism, stay tuned for more to come!
