Sacrifice yourself to God!

September 8, 2018

In this article we will discuss why a human should sacrifice himself to God.
Romans 12:1 will be our main text for this article.
It says...
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Notice it says a living sacrifice. So this is a not a sacrifice of your life. But, rather a giving up of your sinful carnal fleshly human ways.
Romans 6:13
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

So we see that we should  yield ourselves as those that ARE ALIVE. But, in order to do this we must first be sanctified.
1 Peter 1:2
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

This sanctification comes when we get saved
Hebrews 10:10
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

And after our salvation we are to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God
1 Peter 2:5
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

These spiritual sacrifices are mentioned in Hebrews 13:15-16
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for
with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

We have 3 Sacrifices listed here
1. Praise
2. Giving thanks to his name
3: To do good and communicate (give)

And if we return to our main text we see another sacrifice listed
Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

We are to sacrifice our bodies to God and not to walk after the lusts of the flesh and it's sinful ways.
Christ was crucified and died for us and we ought to do the same for him. Surely this is a "reasonable service" as Romans 12:1 says.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
