Revelation Chapter 1:1-7 (Bible Study)

September 19, 2018

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

so Verse 2 says "the testimony of Jesus Christ"
Let's look at Revelation 19:10 to get a definition on this testimony

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

So we see "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Prophecy is the ability to tell the future and the Bible is the only book to ever exist to accurately prophecy every detail of the future without a single mistake.

Revelation 1:3
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Notice John says "the time is at hand" v.3 and also "must shortly come to pass" v.1 so when you see the events of Revelation take place, you know the end is drawing near. One of the greatest signs the end is near is that we are currently living in the Laodicean Lukewarm Church Age
The description of this Church Age in Revelation Chapter 3 perfectly fits Christianity today.

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and thatthe shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelation 1:4
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

So John is now sending out 7 letters of Revelation to the Churches in Asia. There are many Sevens in the book of Revelation which include
-7 Churches
- 7 Spirits
- 7 Stars
- 7 golden candlesticks

- 7 Angels
- 7 Vials
- 7 Seals
- 7 Trumpets
in the last chapter of the Bible the expression "this book" is found seven times.
The word "appointed" also coincidentally appears 7 times in the book of Job which is a book with many Eschatological Tribulation application to it such as 42 Chapters which resemble the last 3 and half years of the tribulation and he is also persecuted by Satan and his name Job means "one persecuted" as the Jews will be in the Tribulation.
Sending out 7 copies of Revelation to the Churches  would also greatly reduce any chances of God's word being corrupted in this book as each Church would have their own copy to compare any other manuscripts with it. The Asia Minor area is also located near the Antioch area which is where the Majority Text is found which is used for The King James Bible, Martin Luther Bible etc. This further reveals why Christians should trust the Majority Text and NOT the Minority Text.

Revelation 1:5-7
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

You will notice God sets up the kingdom without any of our help whatsoever. Post-Millennial heretics will say "let us build up your kingdom" they're not building up anything! God builds up the kingdom because he is omnipotent and can do anything he wants without us.
The Post-Millennial train of thought to say "we bring in the kingdom" is in complete contradiction with what the Bible says. The Bible says the last Church Age would be lukewarm and in apostacy
1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

People won't want to hear Biblical truth in these days. All they want to hear is what they want to hear. They have made an idolatrous image of God in their mind's which is not even slightly similar to who God is.
The Antichrist's kingdom on earth will be set up during the 7 year tribulation and so what these Post-Millennial heretics are actually doing is conditioning your mind to accept the Antichrist and believe that he is Jesus Christ! This is Blasphemy in it's greatest form.

Notice in Revelation 1:7 "every eye shall see him" This is not a secret hidden rapture as like the Church Age rapture. This is the post-tribulation Jewish Rapture as referred to in Zech. 9:1
The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.

And Matthew 24:30
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Notice also this rapture has no similarities whatsoever to the Rapture Paul spoke of in 1 Cor. 15
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

This is a mystery and it happens in a moment! This is not an interpretation, it is reading the Bible as it says and believing it for what it says.

Another reason Christians cannot go through the Tribulation is because we are not appointed to wrath and also because of the different salvation system set up in the tribulation.

Of course this train of theological thought known as the pre-tribulation Rapture completely escapes the minds of Biblical illiterates known as the Post-tribbers. This is why these heretics often come to theological heresies such as the idea that a Christian can lose their salvation because they are mentally incapable of dividing of the word of truth 2 Tim. 2:15
